  75.   As the ex-service manager of Diawa when it was out here on the west coast,
  76.   all I can say is, "Get the Astron".

  78.   The over voltage crowbar that Diawa had was on their 35 amp models, and it
  79.   was nothing more than a voltage sensitive circuit that connected a relay
  80.   contact across the AC input line. That's right, I didn't type that in wrong.

  82.   I had a suppy lose regulation on the bench in the shop and after the smoke
  83.   cleared, I found most of the traces on the "protection" board missing.

  85.   Diawa power supplies have a nice chassis, heatsink and rubber feat, but
  86.   you would be better off to throw the circuitry away and buy a regulator
  87.   board from Astron and install it in the cabinet.

  90.   a 15 volt crowbar made by Lamda connected across the output.

  132. Check out W1FB's QRP Notebook for the QRP linear projects.  You may not
  133. get 100W out but it will give you a nice boost to 30W or so.
  134. Also, check out the PA deck on older ten-tec's like the triton or
  135. century.  They use low drive and pump out 50-100W from a push-pull
  136. transistor pair.

  147. My ICOM 725 evidently has a soldered-in coin Lithium backup battery.
  148. The manual says it should be replaced by the service center.  Looks
  149. easy enough to me, but I know some ICOM products run into major memory
  150. problems when the backup voltage goes away.

  152. Should I wire a parallel 3v battery to the circuit while I am replacing
  153. this?  Or is the issue static discharge thru the soldering iron?

  172. I have replaced both Li coin cells in my Icom 751 and R71A using the 
  173. parallel method, just to make sure I didn't lose anything.  I'm not sure 
  174. how sensitive it is and I don't recall any caps in the circuit that might 
  175. hold it up for a bit.  Not sure about your 725 though, it may be quite 
  176. different.  2.7 to 2.8 V is a good indicator that the battery is on it's 
  177. way out.

  179. I always use a grounded tip iron for safety, but think you'll be ok if 
  180. you use some good static precautions.

  213. WTB an instruction manual (not the detailed "service 
  214. manual") for a Kenwood TH-26AT 2 meter HT.  If you
  215. don't want to part with the manual, what I really need
  216. is a copy of the parts dealing with the controls -- what
  217. the buttons do when pressed in what sequence.  And
  218. what the A, B, C, and D on the DTMF pad do;  what the
  219. "tone" indicator really means, etc.  A Xerox copy would
  220. be sufficient.

  247. Those are programmable limits for vfo scan. Set the lower limit
  248. frequency you wish to scan in L1, and the highest freq range in U1.

  252. but I guess you could at least use them for simplex memories.

  296. A friend of mine purchased a Hallicrafters shortwave receiver at a swap meet
  297. and needs to know what model number it is.  There does not seem to be a model
  298. number on the radio, and not only is there no tube placement diagram, but
  299. the tubes that were in it are obviously not the right ones.
  300.  
  301. It is a relatively small table-top receiver, perhaps 12" wide and 8"
  302. high, with a large slide-rule dial.  The tubes are octal-based, and
  303. it is a transformerless, "AC-DC" design.  Looks like 35Z5 and 50L6
  304. are supposed to be two of the tubes, although some RF/IF style metal-
  305. can tubes had been placed in those sockets instead.
  306.  
  307. Any ideas what set he has, and what tubes it will need?
  308.  
  309. Also: there's something missing underneath.  Looks like it might be an
  310. antenna coil or oscillator coil - wires were clipped coming from the
  311. band switch, and one of the brackets remains with a small piece of what
  312. might have been a small coil form.  I suppose he will have to wind a new
  313. coil from scratch if that is what it is, so if anyone has a matching
  314. set that we can get dimensions from, it would be very helpful.

  330. I was visiting in Chicago two weeks ago and dropped $20 on a non-functional 
  331. Swan 420 HF rig. I popped the cover on the power supply last night and found a 
  332. blown 10-A fuse. I hope to replace to fuse today to see if the power supply 
  333. works.

  359. I just ordered a TE systems linear amp (25 watts in / 175 watts
  360. out at 440 MHz).  The company came highly recommended from
  361. several sources.  On the phone the people were an absolute joy
  362. to work with, helping to determine my needs, very
  363. knowledgeable, friendly, etc.  Not like many companies with
  364. untrained personnel who could care less whether you deal with
  365. them or not.  On the basis of my interaction with the company,
  366. plus comments of others, I cancelled my order for a Mirage amp
  367. and went with them.  So far, at least, I am very impressed.
